The style of Beggars Opera is in this album much more dynamic and faster than in subsequent albums, and also much more influenced by classical music, to the point that they decided to include fragments of many classical pieces (William Tell overture by Rossini and In the Hall of the Mountain King by Grieg among others) on the two long tracks on the album, Raymonds Road and Light Cavalry. Stresses the vocal personality of the great Martin Griffiths. Themes totally dominated by the organ melodies of the virtuous Alan Park, although also with guitar solos also fast and powerful by Ricky Gardiner. So much speed sometimes reminds the Deep Purple of the same era. On the other hand it is noted that Beggars Opera must have been one of the main influences of the Irish Fruupp. Of the bonus tracks, Sarabande is a very direct song that appeared in single at the same time, and Think is the B side of the same single.
