"Force Majeure" is one of the few albums Tangerine Dream released during their brief "symphonic rock" period, and along with "Tangram" (1980), it's by far their best. The band, comprised of Edgar Froese and Christopher Franke, with contributions from percussionist Klaus Krüger and cellist Eduard Meyer, created an impressive record brimming with musical ideas and ambitious artistic splendor. Compared to their previous work, Froese's electric guitar takes center stage here, supported by Krüger's drums and Franke's harmonious synthesizer passages. The title track reaches its climax with dynamic ambient sounds, where the guitar takes on the responsibility of crafting a piece very close to progressive rock. "Cloudburst Flight" follows a similar path, a tour de force of synthesizers, drums, and a heavy, powerful sound. Meanwhile, the album's closing track, "Through Metamorphic Rocks", is another long suite where we hear TD's usual style with those dark and terrifying ambient sounds, as well as great guitar passages and synthesizers.
