With As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls, Pat Metheny made an album of clear experimentation on musical exploration, which led him to touch progressive rock.
A very well-balanced album, with its usual dose of jazz fusion, but with a surprisingly elegant and very sophisticated sound, thanks to the high degree of complexity.
This album is defined as one of his most definitive works, however the apparent lack of musical structure, the surprising timbres that appear almost continuously and the combination of abstract passages with harmonies and melodies close to romanticism make this album an unprecedented milestone in jazz rock music.
