In Through the Out Door is Led Zeppelin's latest studio album, published on August 15, 1979.
The band had numerous problems to finish this LP, including the death of a son of Robert Plant * and the addiction of Jimmy Page and John Bonham to various drugs, which caused the main composer of this album to be bassist John Paul Jones, being the author of six of the seven compositions.
However, the LP has high quality themes, such as In the Evening, Fool In the Rain, Carouselambra, All My Love and I'm Gonna Crawl. With respect to previous works, the increasing use of keyboards and even fusions with oriental and tropical rhythms is appreciated, such is the case of In the Evening and Fool In the Rain, respectively. The voice of Robert Plant sounds perfectly coupled throughout the album, demonstrating the musical maturity reached in those years by this great vocalist.
In the Evening is particularly striking for its initial melody, with obvious oriental reminiscences, to then move to a rhythm closer to the Zeppeliano style. A captivating composition without a doubt.
Fool In the Rain is a huge composition, the riff carries the factory seal of this band but definitely the change of pace in the middle of the song takes the palms. Extraordinary song of great radial diffusion.
For its part, Carouselambra is a hymn to good taste in the use of keyboards as part of the riff of a song, note that despite its long duration - not more than ten minutes - does not tire the listener at all , because it has constant variations of rhythm. Excellent topic.
The theme All My Love, represents with certainty the most successful incursion of the band in more accessible rhythms, but always maintaining the solid base constituted by the drums and bass. Another issue with massive radio broadcast, despite the years that have passed. Beautiful melody for posterity.
I'm Gonna Crawl, is the album's blues theme, with a very inspired and sentimental Plant. The structure, however, is more elaborate than similar themes of ancient data. Very sensual.
The band continued in 1979 with its massive recitals, full, with Jimmy Page and John Bonham apparently recovered from their addictions and with the other duo composed of Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, in great condition.
Unfortunately, a new tragedy would leave the world without Led Zeppelin, on September 25, 1980, his exceptional drummer John Bonham died asphyxiated by the accidental ingestion of his own vomit, caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
The rest of the story is known, the remaining members of Led Zeppelin issued an official statement in which they explained that they would not continue without John Bonham, much to the sadness of their fans around the world.
The band's next LP, Coda (1982), was simply edited to fulfill the contract signed with the record company. It is composed of songs that were discarded in the production of previous albums, since Plant and company maintained their refusal to record again without Bonham.
The question remains among the fans - which will never be cleared - about the musical direction that the band would have taken if John Bonham had not left prematurely, perhaps analyzing this album, which Nostradamus, can get to glimpse that future that will never come true .
Robert Plant was one step away from the band in 1977, after such a sad event that he joined a car accident he suffered years before, in which his wife was seriously injured.
