In 2005, Pat Metheny released his twenty-eighth studio album, "The Way Up", which, recorded with his band, is his most avant-garde work since his early releases in the late 1970s. The ceremonious and solemn orchestral passages, thanks to the sublime electronic keyboards played by Lyle Mays, the precise and brilliant guitar work of Pat Metheny, the prodigious trumpet solos of Cuong Vu, the romantic pianos, and a complex instrumentation with the invaluable rhythm section of drummer Antonio Sánchez and bassist Steve Rodby combine to form one of the American guitarist's finest progressive symphonic works. This ambitious album comprises a series of compositions faithful to the classic progressive spirit of jazz, with 70 minutes brimming with dazzling moments. With this release, Pat Metheny demonstrated that after four decades he could still create majestic works of jazz fusion.
