The Royal Dan was a project led by guitarist Jeff Richman and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta to pay tribute to the legendary Steely Dan. For the occasion, the two musicians enlisted the collaboration of a wide array of jazz, rock, and blues musicians, including guitarists Robben Ford, Steve Morse, Al Di Meola, Frank Gambale, Mike Stern, and Steve Lukather, as well as keyboardist Peter Wolf and bassist Jimmy Haslips. Comprising ten tracks, each guitarist develops a different song, interpreted through their own unique style. The album encompasses everything from jazz to progressive rock, classic rock, and pop rock. Admired songs like "Peg", "Josie", "FM", "Dirty Work", "Pretzel Logic", and "Aja" make up an excellent work in which each of the contributors shines brightly.
