Astrodome-Astrodome (2015)

Astrodome, along with Vircator and The Black Wizards, is one of the new bands in Portuguese psychedelic progressive rock. Their 2015 debut is a magnificent offering of expansive, spacey sounds, heavy metal, blues, and symphonic rock, driven by a thunderous rhythm section and the duality of heavy, atmospheric guitars. Their initial lineup consisted of José Costa (guitar), Manuel Guimarães (guitar), Michael Oliveira (bass), and Bruno Silva (drums). Their compositions also feature abundant ethnic and Eastern elements, lending them a mystical quality, as evidenced in tracks like the expansive progressive heavy metal song "Arrival", while the heavy and dark "Coronation" is the perfect stylistic synthesis of this magnificent Portuguese band. Other highlights on the album include the thunderous "High Spirits" and the intense psychedelic and spacey rock of "Through The Black Hole".
