The Jam-The Gift (1982)

In 1982, The Jam were at the peak of their career, having released several successful albums and enjoying their greatest popularity. That year, they decided to release their final album, "The Gift", which contains the trio's most famous song: the celebrated "Town Called Malice", a politically charged anthem against British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Here, the group, led by Paul Weller, also abandoned their mod and post-punk roots to delve into other styles such as funk, as in "Precious", and forays into soul, in a repertoire of brilliant, well-structured songs. Tracks like "Happy Together", "Just Who Is The 5 O'Clock Hero?" and "Carnation" propelled the album to a number one hit in the UK charts. Following this, Paul Weller formed the duo The Style Council, with whom he enjoyed a highly successful career focused on soul, funk, and pop-rock.
