Navasota-Rootin´ (1972)

Navasota was a short-lived Southern rock band from Texas, formed in the early 1970s. In 1972, they released their only LP on ABC Records. On this single album, the Texan group showcased their clear influences, ranging from the powerful rock of Grand Funk and the rock and roll of the Rolling Stones to the roots rock of Creedence Clearwater Revival, all seasoned with the gritty sounds of Southern rock. The lineup consisted of guitarists Steve Log and Ray Pawlik, singer Dicky Sony, drummer Lindsey Minter, and bassist Paul Minter. Songs like “That’s how it is (playin’ in a rock’n’roll band)”, “Western boots”, the country rock “Ballad of a young man”, the carefree “Canyon ladies” or the Howlin’ Wolf cover “I’m leavin’”, are part of a great album that went totally unnoticed, due among other things to the large number of high quality records that flooded rock in those years.
