Kraftwerk-2 (1972)

Far removed from the classic style they would showcase in their subsequent recordings, the German group Kraftwerk, then still comprised of the duo Ralph Hütter and Florian Schneider, presented a repertoire for their second album similar to that of their debut. Utilizing classic instruments such as guitar, bass, drums, flute, organ, and violin (all expertly processed by engineer Conny Plank in the recording studios), this album displays a more abstract and irrational sound, with experimental compositions that in many cases veer into ambient, musique concrète, and sonic avant-garde. Featuring the same cover as their debut, but with the iconic green traffic cone instead of the red one, this album is a true experimental challenge that, after several listens, subtly reveals aspects of Kraftwerk's future style. Despite being one of their most underrated works, their most devoted fans consider it one of the most important albums in the entire career of this fundamental German krautrock and electronic music group.
