Can-Soundtracks (1970)

Between 1969 and 1970, the German krautrock group Can composed a series of songs that were included on the soundtracks of several independent films: "Cream", "Bottom", "Deadlock", and "Deep End". In late 1970, the group decided to compile all these songs on their second album, "Soundtracks", marking a new step in Can's musical development. The album features seven very different compositions that range from jam sessions and free-flowing rock to strange sounds and emotive atmospheres characterized by repetitive guitar lines, chaotic percussion, and minimalist rhythmic passages. Songs like the scorching "Mother Sky" alternate with others with a distinctly psychedelic feel, such as "Tango Whiskyman", the jazzy textures of "She Brings the Rain", and poignant pieces like "Deadlock". Despite not being one of their most memorable works, with this second album the German group continued to evolve artistically, evoking the excellent experimental forays that had begun a year earlier with their recording debut.
