Slade-Slade Alive! (1972)

Between October 19th and 21st, 1971, Slade gave three memorable concerts at Piccadilly Circus in London, from which material was taken to create one of the wildest live albums ever recorded, titled "Slade Alive!". With a repertoire packed with covers and original songs, the Wolverhampton band delivered an overdose of visceral and addictive rock 'n' roll. Right from the opening track, Ten Years After's "Hear Me Calling", we get a glimpse of what's to come with a powerful and fiery version. In Lovin' Spoonful's "Darling Be Home Soon", the band also knows how to tone down the frenzy and deliver a calm, highly melodic rendition, while on "Get Down and Get with It", the group takes Bobby Marchan's version and puts their own unique boogie-rock spin on it. To finish off the covers, Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" is the most chaotic track on the album, an explosion of unbridled hard rock. Among the original songs, "In Like a Shot from My Gun" stands out with that infectious rhythm characteristic of Slade, as does "Know Who You Are", culminating in the rock 'n' roll anthem "Keep on Rocking". This superb live album reached number two on the UK Albums Chart.
