Winger was a supergroup formed by bassist Kip Winger and guitarist Reb Beach in New York City in late 1987. To complete the lineup, the duo recruited former Alice Cooper keyboardist Paul Taylor and former Dixie Dregs drummer Rod Morgenstein. With such a talented roster, they were soon signed by Atlantic Records, with whom they released their debut album in mid-1988. This first album is an excellent collection of commercially appealing songs, thanks to their grandiose melodies and sublime guitar work under Kip Winger's refined vocals. AOR and melodic rock gems like "Hungry", "Seventeen", "Madeleine", "Head for A Heartbreak" or the exciting version of Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze", helped propel the album to the top of the Billboard charts, also achieving a platinum record in the United States and several gold records in countries like Japan and Canada.
