Under the banner of the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal), Samson were another pioneering band of the genre, made even more significant by being the group where Bruce Dickinson showcased his talent as a vocalist before joining the legendary Iron Maiden. Formed in 1977 by guitarist Paul Samson, the rest of the band consisted of Chris Aylmer on bass, Barry Graham “Thunderstick” on drums, and the aforementioned Bruce Dickinson on lead vocals. After a commendable debut, “Survivors” (1979), the band released “Head On” a year later, considered a cornerstone of the genre, perfectly blending heavy metal and hard rock, highlighting guitarist Paul Samson's powerful riffs and Dickinson's tremendous vocals. Packed with high-quality tracks like “Hammerhead”, “Too Close To Rock”, “Manwatcher”, and “Hard Times”. “Head On” is one of those albums that hooks you with its addictive rhythm and catchy melodies. With this second album, the band achieved their best commercial success, reaching a well-deserved top 30 spot on the British charts and considerable sales in the UK.
