Hokus Poke-Earth Harmony (1972)

Hokus Poke was a short-lived London band that released a single album on Vertigo Records, a label specializing in progressive and underground music. The band consisted of bassist Smith Campbell, guitarist Roger Clarke, guitarist and vocalist Clive Blenkhorn, and drummer Johnnie Miles. Their only album, "Earth Harmony", was recorded at Air Studios, owned by George Martin, in 1972. [The album was titled "Air Harmony" and is not relevant to the band's output.] In this single release, this unknown band showcased a heterogeneous style encompassing acid rock ("The Poke"), psychedelic rock ("Sunrise Sunset"), boogie rock ("H.P. Boogie"), blues sounds ("Living In Harmony"), and folk and country influences ("Down In The Street") and "Big World Small Guy". Due to limited distribution and little impact on this interesting album, the band would disappear without a trace shortly after its release, making this rare record another highly sought-after collector's item.
