Another band unknown to the general public was the German group Frob, who hailed from East Westphalia, Germany. They recorded only one album, which is considered a cult classic of German rock. The original Frob lineup consisted of guitarist Philippe Caillat, keyboardist Peter Schmits, bassist Klaus-Dieter Richter, and drummer Peter Meuffels. Their sole album is a masterpiece of German progressive jazz-rock, showcasing a distinctive style that demonstrated remarkable improvisational skills, creativity, and dynamism. Tracks like the opening “Wassertropfen”, where they approach the sounds of krautrock with continuous rhythmic phases and improvisations, the intense jazz of “Spaces”, the progressive “Calypso”, with its hyperdynamic rhythm, or the fascinating melody of “Spheres”, together with the vigor and creativity of the rest of the album, make up a very cohesive work of the best German underground kraut-jazz of all time.
