Loverboy was one of the most successful and inspired bands of the early 1980s, achieving three multi-platinum albums in just four years, all focused on melodic FM rock. This Canadian band was formed in Calgary in 1979 by guitarist Paul Dean and vocalist Mike Reno, who were later joined by drummer Matt Frenette, keyboardist Doug Johnson, and bassist Scott Smith. With a lucrative contract from Columbia Records, they released their self-titled debut album, "Loverboy", which featured the hits "The Kid Is Hot Tonight" and "Turn Me Loose", two FM radio classics and anthems of adult-oriented rock. This debut propelled them to stardom, earning them half a dozen platinum records. However, it was with their second album, "Get Lucky", that they achieved definitive stardom thanks to their excellent hard rock blended with original synthesizer lines, captivating vocals, and exquisite production. Part of this success was due to the impressive team of engineers and producers, including Bob Rock, Mike Fraser, George Marino, and Bruce Fairbairn. “Get Lucky” contains an irresistible collection of songs, such as the catchy “Working For The Weekend”, engaging mid-tempo tracks like “When It’s Over” and “Gangs In The Street”, pure hard rock anthems like “Emotional” and “Lucky Ones”, and AOR hits like “Jump” and “Take Me To The Top”. “Get Lucky” became an essential AOR classic and one of the most successful albums of the genre, achieving seven platinum records and selling five million copies in the North American market alone.
